Energy Performance Certificates - a tool to help reduce carbon emissions

The final piece of legislation became effective in October 2008, when all conditioned buildings, with a few minor exceptions, were required to have an energy performance certificate (epc) when being sold or being rented. Only by measuring the energy efficiency of buildings and then taking action to improve our use of energy, will we be able to achieve our government's targets for carbon emission reductions.

An Energy Performance Certificate not only provides an assessment of the energy efficiency of a building, it also includes recommendations for energy efficiency improvements. It follows that, as part of our common concern for the future of the planet, it would be difficult to overstate the importance of EPCs. Unfortunately, it would appear that the EPC continues to be considered as an unwelcome cost burden, rather than an essential tool to bring about change to reduce both our energy costs and our carbon footprint.

Because we listen to our clients and respond to what they ask for, our focus is always on solutions. When clients want to reduce energy costs, we will always advise and make recommendations to help to minimise their carbon footprint. And if required, we can oversee a project through to installation and payback.

In response to concerns raised about the quality of EPCs, the Department of Communities and Local Government have recently announced a consultation regarding the use of Data Gatherers. In our opinion, the quality, the reliability and the responsibility for an EPC remains with the accredited energy assessor. So we absolutely guarantee that our cost-effective solutions for energy performance certificates will only be provided by qualified energy assessors. As responsible professionals we never send Data Gatherers to clients’ premises.
